Affidavit - A printed or written declaration or statement under oath.
Allegation - A declaration, assertion, or statement of a party to an action made in a pleading, stating what is expected to be proven.
Deposition - According to the rules of the court, sworn testimony taken and recorded in an authorized place outside of the courtroom.
Evidence - Any form of proof legally presented at a trial through records, documents, witnesses, and more.
Fine - A fee that is imposed upon someone guilty of a crime as punishment for the offense.
Hearsay - Evidence based on what a witness has heard another individual say, rather than what the witness has personally seen or experienced.
Infraction - A minor law violation that is usually punishable with a fine.
Petition - A written request application for remedy available under law.
Public Defender - A lawyer employed by the public to defend individuals who are facing criminal charges and cannot afford an attorney.
Witness - Someone who testifies under oath before a court, regarding what he/she has heard, seen or otherwise observed.
