Truck Accidents in Michigan

Saginaw, MI – One Injured in Truck Crash on Veterans Memorial PkwyCollisions involving semi-trucks often result in serious injuries due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles. In Michigan, more than 14,000 large truck crashes were reported in 2023 alone. Many of these occurred at intersections or while trucks were making wide turns or merging with traffic.

Truck accident cases often bring complications that go beyond standard vehicle crashes. Here are some common challenges victims face in these types of incidents:

  • Severe Injuries: Semi-truck crashes are more likely to result in major injuries such as spinal cord damage, broken bones, or internal trauma. These injuries often require long-term care and extensive recovery periods.
  • Liability Disputes: In truck accidents, more than one party might be held responsible—this can include the truck driver, the trucking company, or even a maintenance contractor. Determining liability often involves an in-depth investigation.
  • Commercial Insurance Complexities: Trucking companies typically carry commercial insurance policies with higher limits, but they also have legal teams focused on minimizing payouts. This can lead to lengthy claims processes or aggressive defense tactics.
  • Federal and State Regulations: Truck drivers and their employers are bound by strict laws regarding rest hours, weight limits, and maintenance schedules. Violations of these rules can be key in proving negligence.
  • Black Box Data and Logs: Many commercial trucks are equipped with event data recorders and driving logs. Accessing and preserving this evidence quickly is crucial, but can be challenging without legal help.
  • Emotional Impact: Crashes with large trucks are often traumatic, especially when injuries are severe. Victims and their families may deal with long-term stress and anxiety after such events.
