Car Accidents in Michigan

Macomb County, MI - Deputy-Involved Crash at Metro Pkwy and I-94In Michigan, collisions involving law enforcement or government vehicles are closely scrutinized. Each year, thousands of accidents occur across the state, including those involving emergency personnel. According to the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, over 70,000 injury crashes happen annually—many on high-speed corridors like I-94.

When crashes happen, it’s important to consider how certain types of roads can contribute to the danger:

  • High-Speed Interstates: Highways like I-94 see a constant flow of traffic moving at high speeds. These conditions reduce the time drivers have to react and often lead to more serious injuries during collisions.
  • Busy Intersections: Metro Parkway and similar routes serve as major arterial roads. Intersections along these roads see frequent turning traffic, which increases the risk of T-bone or rear-end crashes.
  • Merging Lanes: Entrance and exit ramps are particularly dangerous, especially when drivers misjudge gaps or attempt last-minute lane changes. Accidents in these areas often happen suddenly and at full speed.
  • Low Visibility Zones: Rain, fog, or poor lighting in underpasses or wooded areas can reduce driver awareness. Even attentive drivers may struggle to avoid hazards when visibility is low.
  • Mixed Vehicle Types: Large trucks, motorcycles, and emergency vehicles often share the road. Size differences between vehicles can lead to more severe crashes, especially when a heavy-duty vehicle hits a smaller car or bike.
