Brighton, MI (July 1, 2025) – A tragic workplace accident in Livingston County claimed the life of a young road worker on Monday afternoon, June 30. Michigan State Police responded around 3:15 p.m. on June 30 to the area of Grand River Avenue near Interstate 96 following reports of an injured worker.
Authorities arrived to find a 23-year-old man from St. Claire Shores had been struck by an excavator bucket while performing his job duties. Officers immediately provided first aid and rushed the victim to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
According to investigators, the excavator operator did not see the worker at the time of the incident. Although the incident appears accidental, the Michigan State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this devastating loss.
