Road Worker Struck and Killed by Excavator on Grand River near Interstate 96 in Brighton Township, Livingston County

Michigan, IL. - A 23-year-old man was struck and killed by an excavator on Monday afternoon in Brighton Township, Livingston County, according to Michigan State Police.

The accident happened at around 3:15 p.m. on June 30, at Grand River near Interstate 96.

Police said, the St. Clair Shores man was working in a hole in the road when he was hit by an excavator bucket. Initial investigations revealed the excavator operator appeared he was not aware the worker was in the hole at the time.

First responders aided the worker before taking him to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police said the accident seemed to be a work accident.

An investigation is underway.
