Detroit, MI (July 6, 2025) – Fire crews rushed to the scene of a house explosion on Detroit’s east side Saturday afternoon, July 5. The incident occurred at approximately 3:49 p.m. in the 19400 block of McCormick Street near Moross Road and Interstate 94. Neighbors reported feeling their homes shake as debris and air conditioning units were blown into the streets. Fire officials confirmed that one person was injured in the explosion and was transported for medical care.
According to the Detroit Fire Department, the blast damaged the homes on either side of the property where the explosion originated. Thankfully, no one was inside those neighboring houses at the time. However, all three homes have been deemed uninhabitable due to the extent of the damage. Utility provider DTE has shut off power and gas to ensure safety while investigators work to determine the cause of the explosion.
We hope the individual injured in this incident recovers quickly.
