Car Accidents in Michigan

Flint, MI - Injury Reported After Crash at W Fifth Ave & N Grand Traverse StIn Michigan, thousands of vehicle crashes happen every year, causing serious injuries and financial strain for those involved. Reports from the Michigan State Police indicate that many of these collisions occur at busy intersections and are often caused by distracted or reckless driving. Staying alert, obeying traffic laws, and practicing defensive driving are vital steps that help keep roads safer for everyone.

To help drivers understand how to protect themselves, here are some of the most common intersections hazards:

  • Failure to Yield: Failing to yield the right of way is a frequent factor in intersection accidents. Drivers should always pay close attention to traffic signals and signs and make complete stops before proceeding.
  • Improper Turns: Turning without checking for oncoming traffic, pedestrians, or cyclists can result in serious crashes. Always signal clearly and make turns cautiously.
  • Running Red Lights: Impatience or distraction can lead drivers to run red lights, putting themselves and others at risk. It’s important to slow down and stop safely at yellow lights rather than speeding through.
  • Obstructed Views: Large vehicles, poor weather, or blind spots can block a driver’s view at intersections. Taking extra time to look both ways and ensuring a clear line of sight can help prevent accidents.
  • Inattentive Pedestrians and Cyclists: Intersections are shared spaces. Drivers must remain alert for pedestrians or cyclists who may cross unexpectedly, especially in busy areas.
