Springfield Twp., MI (July 6, 2025) – A tragic ATV rollover crash occurred at around 2 a.m. on Friday, July 4, on private property along Inman Road in Springfield Township, Kalkaska County. According to Michigan State Police, an off-road vehicle carrying five people overturned, resulting in the death of one passenger and injuries to others.
Authorities reported that none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. One passenger tragically lost their life, while another suffered a serious head injury, and a third passenger sustained a broken arm. The driver, a 33-year-old man from Albion, was arrested and booked into the Kalkaska County Jail on multiple charges, including one count of operating while intoxicated causing death and two counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury. Here in Michigan, police continue to investigate the circumstances that led up to the deadly incident.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the passenger who lost their life and wish those injured a full recovery.
In Michigan, off-road vehicle and ATV crashes remain a real risk, especially during warm months when people spend more time outdoors. The Michigan State Police remind riders that seatbelts and helmets can greatly reduce the chance of serious injury or death. Sadly, many accidents happen when drivers or passengers are not properly restrained, or when alcohol is involved.
