Sterling Heights, MI (March 20, 2022) – On Thursday, March 17th, a fatal car accident happened on a roadway in Macomb County. The incident was reported to officials in the area at approximately 1:15 a.m.

A 21-year-old woman reportedly lost her life in the crash. It happened on M-53 near Clinton River Road when she was traveling north on M-53. The woman, who was said to be from Ohio, was driving her Nissan when a 45-year-old man from East China Township collided with her in his BMW.

The man crashed head-on into a guardrail and then into the woman’s vehicle, pushing it underneath a road sign where its roof was cut off. Both vehicles then left the roadway and down a hill, landing in the football field of a nearby school.

The woman suffered major head trauma and was pronounced deceased on-site. The man was transported to an area hospital with unspecified injuries. Police suspect alcohol to be the main cause of the crash.

The northbound lanes of M-53 at 18 Mile Road were closed while authorities worked at the scene. Authorities continue to investigate.

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with everyone involved.
