Deerfield Twp, MI - Driver Hurt in Deadly Crash when Car Crosses Centerline on Lapeer Rd

Deerfield Twp, MI (July 13, 2023) - One person was killed and another injured after a two-vehicle collision that was reported in the Deerfield Township area on Wednesday morning, July 12. 

The accident occurred on Lapeer Road between Barnes Lake Road and Burnside Road at around 11 a.m. A 61-year-old Otter Lake man was driving a 2022 Jeep Compass traveling northbound when he veered across the centerline. Many drivers attempted to avoid hitting the Compass, but a southbound 2016 Jeep Cherokee was still hit. 

The impact caused the Compass to overturn onto its roof. The driver of the Compass suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver declined medical treatment. 

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is in progress.
