Motor Vehicle Crashes in Detroit
Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that an automobile accident occurs every few seconds in the United States. It should come as no surprise that the great majority of personal injury cases handled by our courts today involve car accidents, given the disheartening national and Michigan collision statistics.
In Michigan, “no-fault” insurance means that insurers often don’t try to determine who was at blame in an accident. First-party benefits (monetary damages) and non-economic losses (such as pain and suffering) are both compensable in a lawsuit against the responsible party.
Even if you think your injuries are modest and the case is simple, you should still see a lawyer if you’ve been in a vehicle accident. Victims understandably worry about exhausting their financial resources on legal representation, yet the research shows that plaintiffs with good defense counsel get greater awards. Until you get your settlement, you won’t have to worry about paying your personal injury lawyer.
In all interactions with insurers and other parties, your attorney might stand in as your agent. Your lawyer will look into your case from every possible angle to discover who was at fault and why you should get compensation. Possible first steps in this direction include gathering pertinent information and conducting witness interviews.
