Injury-Causing Crashes in Detroit
Although dealing with the aftermath of a car accident in Michigan can be frustrating and especially challenging, there are some simple actions you can take to safeguard your legal rights.
First, drivers in Michigan should know that if the combined costs of injuries and property damage from an accident are more than $1,000, a police report must be made. The police report will include detailed descriptions of the accident scene, as well as information on any witnesses and insurance companies involved.
And if you’ve been hurt in an accident, no matter how minor your injuries seem, you should be checked out by a qualified medical provider right away. Even minor injuries can have a significant impact on a victim’s quality of life, and the symptoms of most injuries can take several hours or days to appear.
Moreover, if victims want to prove that their injuries were caused by the accident, they must keep meticulous records beginning at the first sign of injury or other related symptoms. Also, if you notice any changes in your condition or sustain any injuries after commencing treatment, it’s important to schedule an appointment with your doctor. Keep track of how often the injury occurs, how much your treatment costs, how much pain you’re in, and how your treatment plan has changed in the weeks following your crash.
Furthermore, remember that in order to recover properly from an accident, you will need to take part in both physical therapy and occupational therapy, in addition to having regular checkups with your primary care physician. The success of your claim and any possible legal action also depends on your compliance with the prescribed treatment by your doctor. For instance, insurance adjusters in Michigan commonly argue that an accident victim is not entitled to benefits or compensation because they refused medical treatment or repeatedly rescheduled appointments with their physicians.
