Grand Rapids, MI (September 18, 2023) – Grand Rapids police are looking into an accident that left one man hospitalized and blocked a major junction.
According to local officers, the incident occurred near the intersection of Alpine Avenue NW and Leonard Street NW in Grand Rapids at around 1:40 a.m. on Monday morning, September 18.
The man on the motorcycle was injured when a vehicle traveling south crashed into him at the intersection, per investigators. He was in serious condition when he arrived at the hospital.
The Grand Rapids Police Department said they are still investigating the collision, but the driver has been arrested and is likely at fault. Police also believe that both excessive speed and the use of drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision, though they asked any witnesses to contact Officer Thompson with the GRPD to report additional information.
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to the injured victim and his family.
Motorcycle Accidents in Michigan
The Great Lakes State of Michigan has 3,288 miles of shoreline, and many people like riding motorcycles along that coastline to take in the stunning views. We have a much too high rate of motorcycle accidents in our state. The Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP) of Michigan revealed that in a single year, there were 2,722 motorcycle-related traffic accidents in the state.
The best strategies for motorcyclists in Michigan to keep safe and limit the risk of significant crash-related injuries are to always wear a helmet with a face shield or protective eyewear and to be alert to their surroundings. Sadly, these collisions persist despite increased awareness of how vulnerable motorcyclists are in comparison to car drivers.
An experienced personal injury attorney can assist in protecting your rights if you were wounded in a motorcycle accident in Michigan.
- After determining the full extent of your losses (including damages, medical costs, and lost wages), your attorney will submit a formal demand to the insurance carrier. Your attorney will then pursue a claim settlement from your insurance company. If adjusters disagree with the recommended settlement figure, they may submit a counteroffer.
- Your personal injury lawyer may then advise you to take legal action, such as filing a lawsuit. In order to avoid going to court, the insurance company might negotiate a higher payout. Your lawyer and the insurance company will likely go back and forth a few more times before reaching a reasonable settlement. It’s possible that a neutral third-party mediator will be needed to assist the disputing parties in coming to terms.
- All parties are encouraged to express their views openly and honestly throughout the mediation process. The insurance company’s best offer is usually presented during mediation.
