Detroit, MI - Injury-Causing Collision, Fire on I-275 at Novi Rd

Detroit, MI (November 14, 2023) - Traffic is back to normal after a serious crash and major car fire along I-275 near Novi Road on Tuesday night closed the freeway down. MDOT officials say the fire was blocking all but the left lane of southbound I-275 after Grand River, with traffic slow in the surrounding area around 8:00 p.m. The incident later cleared around 9:30 p.m. Photos from the freeway showed an SUV fully engulfed in flames before first responders arrived on-scene. It was not immediately clear what caused the wreck or if anyone had been injured. Police said they are still investigating the crash and what occurred during the aftermath.
