Waverly Township, MI (November 15, 2023) - After a collision in Waverly Township on Monday involving an uninsured and unlicensed motorist, deputies say one individual is in the critical care unit, and officials have released further details. The incident occurred near the junction of M-40 and M-43 just before 11:00 a.m., as reported by the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
As a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling south on M-40 approached M-43 with a green signal, a Pontiac Torrent failed to yield to it as it had turned westbound onto M-43 from M-40. The sheriff's office said that the pickup truck collided with the Pontiac. Deputies stated on Tuesday that the male passenger, a 22-year-old, was transferred to the hospital and was listed in the intensive care unit. The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office said that a 28-year-old woman from Allegan, who was a passenger in the pickup truck, also sought medical attention at a nearby hospital. A 21-year-old male from Bangor was reportedly driving the Pontiac without a valid license or insurance. Along with misdemeanor accusations of driving without a license and driving without insurance, the sheriff's office has announced that it is filing a felony charge of traffic infraction causing severe damage to the prosecutor's office.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
