West Bloomfield, MI (July 28, 2023) - On Sunday, a house fire in West Bloomfield resulted in serious injuries to two residents, and West Bloomfield officers confirmed the deaths of both victims on Wednesday.

After the early morning blaze on Red Coat Lane, a man and a woman were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. On Wednesday, firefighters reported that the victims, a married couple, passed away at an area hospital.

Both victims were initially located on the first and second floors by the fire departments. Rescue teams reported that the victims suffered symptoms of smoke inhalation, though it's unclear if they sustained any other injuries initially.

West Bloomfield's fire chief, Gregory Flynn, stated that a preliminary investigation indicates the basement as the point of origin. However, the central cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased victims.
