Ferrysburg, MI (August 17, 2023) - Deputies say a man was killed Thursday after two separate collisions involving a total of 12 vehicles occurred on U.S. Highway 31 near Ferrysburg.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office reports that the incident occurred shortly before 7:00 a.m. on northbound U.S. 31 near exit 104A, on the drawbridge that crosses the Grand River. Deputies reported that nine cars had crashed due to backed-up traffic caused by a disabled vehicle.

The sheriff's office said that shortly thereafter, a second wreck involving three automobiles occurred. A 62-year-old man from Holton was reportedly killed in this secondary collision.

Earlier reports said at least two other persons were hurt, according to dispatchers in Ottawa County. Officials shut down northbound U.S. 31 after Jackson Street for an investigation, which is still ongoing at this time.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the deceased man's family. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their loved ones.
