Detroit, MI (November 26, 2023) - Police say that an intoxicated driver caused a rear-end collision on I-96 early Sunday morning, and a man from Southfield is now in custody.

Just before 3:30 a.m. in the morning, the Michigan State Police fielded several reports of an accident involving two cars and injuries on westbound I-96 close to Telegraph Road. Two heavily damaged vehicles were discovered when the troopers arrived. According to initial reports, the motorist who collided with the other car was a 27-year-old male from Southfield who was allegedly speeding. Firefighters from Detroit used the Jaws of Life to free the driver of the car that was rear-ended. EMTs took that victim to the hospital in serious condition. After the incident, authorities found that the Southfield motorist was also intoxicated. Prosecutors are now reviewing the charges.

The injured victim and their loved ones remain in our thoughts.
