Canton, MI - Deadly Crash on I-275 After Possible Hit-and-Run

Canton, MI (August 14, 2023) - A deadly collision on I-275 in Metro Detroit forced the closure of the highway for several hours on Sunday night, August 13, and local police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officers with the Canton Police Department began their on-scene investigation shortly before the exit to Ford Road. More information on the victim, a male from Westland, age 28, was released by Michigan State Police on Monday morning. The victim was seen lying on the side of I-275 by witnesses, according to calls made to the Detroit Regional Communication Center.

During their investigation, the police also discovered red auto parts strewn around the crash site that belonged to the victim's rented vehicle and suspected a possible hit-and-run crash had occurred.

State police are appealing to the public for any additional information and asked other eyewitnesses to come forward. The investigation remains ongoing in the interim.
