Madison Heights, MI (November 26, 2023) – Late Saturday afternoon in Madison Heights, a woman in her 70s lost her life in a head-on collision.
A westbound motorist crossed the centerline and collided with a vehicle driven by a 77-year-old woman, who was traveling east on 14 Mile Road between John R and Dequindre Roads. The woman was declared dead at the site of the accident, shortly after first responders arrived, according to police authorities. The events leading up to the collision remain unclear, and the extent of the second driver’s injuries is also unknown. Witnesses were asked to contact the Madison Heights Police Department at their earliest convenience.
Our deepest condolences are with the deceased woman’s family.
Head-on Collisions in Michigan
Per traffic experts, a head-on crash takes place when a motorist drives against the flow of traffic and collides with a vehicle traveling in the correct direction. According to official statistics, these drivers kill over 360 people annually in the United States. Between 2011 and 2016, eight motorists lost their lives in these accidents in Michigan.
While the causes of these collisions may vary, negligent driving is almost always to blame. The following are the primary reasons:
Driving while impaired by narcotics or alcohol
Texting and talking on a mobile phone while operating a motor vehicle
ignoring traffic signals and markings
Inexperience or unfamiliarity with interstate entrances and departures
If you or a family member were injured in an accident caused by a negligent motorist in Michigan, you could file a lawsuit against that driver. Never is it permissible to drive in the opposite direction on an adequately marked road. Injuries and other losses suffered by victims are the sole responsibility of the driver who engaged in this conduct.
In personal injury litigation, these damages, which frequently include compensation for mental suffering, physical injury and deformity, and ongoing trauma, are sought in restitution. For instance, individuals who take the incorrect route frequently sustain severe injuries and fractured bones. Others have severe brain injuries, spine injuries, and other severe traumas that require surgery and medical care.
Additionally, the family of a person who died in a collision may submit a lawsuit for wrongful death. Past medical expenses, funeral or burial costs, loss of consortium, and other costs may be included in the demise of a loved one’s compensation.

Clinton County, MI (November 25, 2023) – After a four-vehicle collision took place on Friday, November 24, officials from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office advised drivers to avoid Old U.S. 127 between Alward Road and Round Lake Road.
According to Det. Sgt. Chris Crawford of the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, a 33-year-old man died, and two others were taken to a nearby hospital after the crash. An SUV reportedly rear-ended a large pickup truck while they were both heading south on Old U.S. 127. The SUV’s subsequent centerline crossing set off a “chain reaction” involving two other northbound vehicles on Old U.S. 127. The Accident Reconstruction team from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department is handling the ongoing investigation.
Our deepest condolences go out to the deceased man’s family. The injured victims and their loved ones remain in our thoughts.
Multi-Driver Crashes in Michigan
After you’ve been involved in a car accident in Detroit or somewhere in Michigan, you may be confused about the next steps you should take. You are not compelled to retain legal counsel after a vehicle accident injury in Michigan, although doing so may be in your best interest. An attorney may assist in ensuring that your rights to Michigan No-Fault income loss, PIP compensation, and medical bill payment are protected.
For instance, our state’s No-Fault insurance statute is intricate and full of potential pitfalls for those who aren’t careful. Moreover, you must consider the practice of providing “notice” after a car accident. If you are injured in a car accident and don’t apply for No-Fault benefits within one year of the accident, you may lose your right to receive any No-Fault PIP payments at all. The same holds if you fail to report and settle a sizable medical cost within a year of its accrual.
Another scenario is getting into an accident with someone who turns out to be uninsured or struck by a driver who then flees the scene. If you fail to meet the “notice” requirements of your own “uninsured motorist” policy, you may lose your right to recover compensation for your injuries and losses, leaving you with nothing — or, worse, with a mountain of expensive medical bills to pay out of pocket and no insurance to cover them in the future.
Unfortunately, your insurance company’s claims adjuster may not be as helpful as expected. Did you know that, according to a recent ruling by the Supreme Court of Michigan, your claims adjuster is not obligated to inform you of your rights? Furthermore, they might ask you to sign a release waiving your entitlement to future No-Fault benefits and injury compensation.
Thankfully, a skilled attorney can help you safeguard your legal rights. To better understand and empathize with our clients’ legal concerns, we take the time to get to know them on a personal and professional level. If you or a loved one were injured in a vehicle accident that wasn’t your fault and you live in the greater Detroit area, please call our team at Christopher Trainor & Associates. Clinton Township, MI (November 24, 2023) – An investigation into a deadly collision involving a bicycle is underway by the police on Wednesday evening, November 22, is reportedly underway.
The collision occurred at about 6:45 p.m. on November 22 on Harper Avenue, just south of Metropolitan Parkway, according to the Clinton Township Police. Per police, the cyclist was first discovered to be riding in the northbound lane of Harper Avenue. Both cars—a 2019 Dodge Charger and a 2018 Jeep Compass—were still at the site of the accident. The exact location of the bicyclist’s death, whether at the scene or at a hospital, remains unknown. Our sincere condolences are extended to the deceased victim’s family at this time.
Deadly Bicycle Crashes in Michigan
In the previous three years, there has been a disturbing increase in the number of bicyclists killed in traffic accidents in Michigan, according to newly disclosed crash statistics. There were 103 bike fatalities in Michigan between 2020 and 2022, a 64% increase over the prior three-year period.
From 2017 to 2019, there were a total of 63 deaths in accidents involving bicyclists throughout the state. By contrast, there were a total of 103 deaths involving bicyclists in the years 2020 to 2022 (38 in 2020, 29 in 2021, and 36 in 2022).
The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP) has given overtime funding to law enforcement agencies in many areas in an effort to reduce the number of bicycle-related injuries and deaths on Michigan highways.
That said, bicyclists in the state of Michigan still face the problem of drivers who are distracted or not paying attention. Common causes of bicycle accidents in our state include:
Drivers who disregard traffic signals or drive recklessly, such as by speeding.
Drivers who make turns without checking all areas of an intersection (usually turning right with a bicyclist on the right side or turning left at a crossroads).
Distractions for motorists, such as texting while driving, ignoring bike lanes, jumping the curb, and driving onto sidewalks, walkways, crosswalks, etc.
Crosswalks are, unfortunately, one of the most hazardous areas in the city for cyclists. This is due to the fact that drivers who fail to slow down or yield have a far higher chance of colliding with a bicycle in these junctures, which often results in severe injuries to the cyclists involved in these wrecks.
Thankfully, a skilled attorney who specializes in bicycle accidents in Michigan can research the facts surrounding your accident and identify who was at fault for the accident that has left you with serious injuries. Taylor, MI (November 18, 2023) – A woman was killed on Tuesday afternoon in Taylor after a semi-truck collided with her bicycle, and an investigation is now ongoing into the incident.
The incident reportedly happened at Ecorse Road and Monroe Boulevard, between Telegraph and the Southfield Freeway, south of I-94. As police investigate, they have asked any witnesses with additional information to come forward.
Our sincere condolences are with the deceased woman’s family at this time.
Pedestrian Deaths in Michigan
Officials say that the national and state rates of pedestrian accidents are rising. In fact, of the more than 2,300 pedestrians who were hurt in accidents in Michigan last year, nearly all of them sustained serious injuries. What’s more, there were nearly 150 deaths caused by these incidents, down slightly from the year before but still tragically elevated over previous years.
Adding insult to injury, most pedestrian accidents occur because motorists are careless or reckless. The most prevalent causes of pedestrian accidents include but are not limited to the following:
Intentional or careless speeding, especially in densely-populated urban areas.
Driving through an intersection in a red light zone while pedestrians are present.
Violating posted speed limits and other rules of the road.
Excessive speed in residential areas, particularly in neighborhoods frequented by children.
Backing out of private parking lots and driveways without checking for pedestrians.
Making turns at crosswalks without checking for oncoming pedestrians.
Distraction by mobile phones, radio dials, and other electronic devices.
Reckless driving in hazardous circumstances (such as heavy rain or snow).
Getting behind the wheel while impaired by drugs and alcohol or driving while fatigued.
Sadly, when pedestrians are hit by a car, they are at a significantly increased risk of severe injury and death. Vehicles, including SUVs, vans, and trucks, typically weigh over 4,000 pounds. Among the most typical injuries are:
Concussions and traumatic brain injuries (TBIs)
Paralysis and quadriplegia from spinal cord damage and related injuries.
Facial disfiguration and skull fractures.
Multiple broken bones or fractures, nervous system injury, and death.
Thankfully, victims who sustain injuries in pedestrian accidents caused by another person’s negligence may have legal recourse in the aftermath. At Christopher Trainor & Associates, our Taylor pedestrian accident attorneys will fight for maximum compensation for clients who have been hurt due to the carelessness of others. Walker, MI (November 9, 2023) – On Wednesday afternoon, a car hit and critically wounded a 14-year-old pedestrian in the Walker area.
Walker police said the 14-year-old is likely to survive their injuries, though the police did not provide any other information on the victim.
Officers say the incident occurred on Alpine Avenue close to Cogswell Street around 4:35 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8. At around that time, a southbound car hit the 14-year-old as they crossed Alpine Avenue, per the Walker police.
According to the ongoing investigation, neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the incident.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their loved ones at this time.
Major Vehicle Collisions in Michigan
Everyone understands that driving is hazardous, but when drivers take unnecessary risks, the chances of a serious or even fatal car accident are only exacerbated and magnified. If you’ve lost a loved one because of a negligent or dangerous motorist, you’re likely understandably upset and devastated.
The loss of a loved one cannot be compensated for, but the financial stability that comes from receiving a settlement may help you move forward. Certain surviving relatives in Michigan may file a wrongful death lawsuit and seek damages. A member of the family must be designated as the claim’s representative. Our state’s laws allow the following members of the deceased’s family to sue for wrongful death:
Family of the decedent, such as a spouse and children
Grandparents and parents of the deceased
The deceased’s siblings
Those who are named in the deceased’s will (such as aunts, uncles, or cousins) or who are legally entitled to inherit from the estate may submit a wrongful death claim even if none of the above relatives are still alive at the time of the death.
The negligent driver who caused your family member’s death or serious injuries in a car incident in Detroit should pay for their actions. Moreover, the vast majority of wrongful death lawsuits are filed by bereaved families with nothing to “gain” by doing so. In fact, they only seek recompense for the monetary hardship the terrible loss of their loved one has caused.
You have the right to hold the motorist responsible for your family member’s death if that driver’s negligence was a contributing factor. Depending on the specifics of your case, a wrongful death claim may entitle you to compensation for the following:
Medical care and healthcare expenses
The costs of your loved one’s funeral and burial
The financial and emotional impact of losing your loved one, including but not limited to pain and suffering
Experiencing the loss of your family member’s love, support, and direction (also known as loss of consortium)
After suffering injuries or losing a loved one in an accident, it’s normal to feel fearful and unsure of what to do next. If you’re struggling financially, you won’t want to add any more stress by doing it alone, but Christopher Trainor & Associates is here to assist. Contact our Walker pedestrian accident attorneys at 248-886-8650 if you’ve lost a loved one in an accident in Michigan.
