Detroit, MI (November 15, 2023) - On Wednesday evening, drivers commuting across Metro Detroit were impacted by major traffic backups after an accident on I-696. At around 6:20 p.m., the accident occurred on I-696 eastbound between Dequindre and Mound, according to MDOT. From Woodward Avenue until almost seven miles along I-696, traffic was severely congested. The total number of injured victims were among the specific information that authorities withheld from the public, though at least two people were reportedly hurt. Authorities recommended that drivers use Woodward Avenue north to 11 Mile Road while the on-scene investigation continued.
