St. Clair Shores, MI – Three-Vehicle Crash on I-94 at 10 Mile Rd

St. Clair Shores, MI (April 4, 2025) - A major crash involving three vehicles shut down eastbound Interstate 94 at 10 Mile Road on Thursday, April 3. The collision, which occurred around 11:50 a.m., prompted an extended closure as emergency crews responded to the scene.

According to Michigan State Police, the crash was caused by a driver suspected of being under the influence. Investigators say the woman was speeding and attempted to squeeze between two vehicles already traveling on the freeway. During the maneuver, she struck a semi-truck and another passenger vehicle. Troopers found marijuana, open containers, and whippets inside her vehicle.

The semi-truck involved in the crash leaked a large quantity of oil onto the roadway, adding significant time to the clean-up efforts. Crews worked for hours to safely reopen the affected lanes. Both a driver and a passenger from one of the vehicles were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been released at this time. Authorities are continuing their investigation and charges may be pending for the at-fault driver.

We extend our well wishes to those injured and hope for a smooth recovery.

Car Accidents in Michigan

St. Clair Shores, MI – Three-Vehicle Crash on I-94 at 10 Mile RdInterstate collisions are some of the most serious crashes in Michigan due to the speed and volume of traffic. In 2022, Michigan recorded over 50,000 injury accidents statewide. Collisions involving semi-trucks and impaired drivers are particularly dangerous and often lead to lengthy investigations, extended road closures, and serious injuries.

When alcohol or drugs are involved, the legal process can become even more complicated. Here's what victims should know:

  • Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Increases Liability: When a driver is found to be under the influence, they are typically considered negligent. This can strengthen a victim’s claim and increase the compensation they are eligible to receive.
  • Multiple Party Involvement: In crashes involving more than two vehicles, the complexity of liability rises. It's important to determine the role each driver played and whether any other parties share blame.
  • Commercial Vehicle Regulations: If a semi-truck is involved, federal regulations and additional layers of liability may apply. Trucking companies are required to follow strict safety and maintenance protocols.
  • Toxicology Reports Can Affect Outcomes: In cases involving suspected drug or alcohol use, lab results and officer observations may be used to support criminal charges or civil claims.
  • Increased Damages: Victims of impaired driving crashes may be entitled to punitive damages in addition to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
