Car Accidents in Michigan

Flint, MI - Injury Reported at Corunna Rd & Ballenger HwyEvery year, thousands of people are hurt in traffic collisions throughout Michigan. With over 50,000 injury crashes recorded annually, victims often face lasting effects. These incidents can result in physical, emotional, and financial challenges—some that last for months or even years.

Understanding what to do after a crash can be overwhelming, especially when dealing with insurance and injury. Here's how victims can better protect themselves legally and financially:

  • Avoid Posting on Social Media: After a crash, it's common to want to share updates online. However, posts can be used against you by insurance companies or opposing attorneys. Even photos or location tags might be misinterpreted. It's safer to keep details private and consult an attorney first.
  • Get a Copy of the Police Report: This document serves as an official account of the crash and includes key information like parties involved, witness statements, and officer observations. It can play a crucial role in proving what happened and supporting any legal claim or insurance dispute.
  • Follow Up on Medical Treatment: Always follow your doctor’s orders and attend all appointments. Inconsistent treatment could be used as evidence that your injuries aren’t serious. Keeping detailed records also builds a strong connection between the accident and your medical condition.
  • Keep a Recovery Journal: Track your pain levels, mobility issues, missed work, and emotional effects. This kind of documentation can be powerful when seeking compensation for pain and suffering. It also helps you and your legal team measure how the injury is impacting your life over time.
  • Speak With a Lawyer Before Accepting a Settlement: Insurance companies often offer low initial settlements hoping victims will accept quickly. A lawyer can review any offers and make sure you’re not settling for less than you deserve, especially when long-term treatment may be required.
