Car Accidents in Michigan

Flint, MI - Multi-Vehicle Crash at Beecher Rd and S Ballenger Hwy Causes InjuriesCar accidents in Michigan are an unfortunate reality for many residents. In 2023, over 282,000 vehicle crashes occurred across the state, according to the Michigan State Police. Nearly 70,000 of those incidents led to injuries. With dense traffic zones and unpredictable weather patterns, Michigan roads can pose serious risks to drivers and passengers alike.

Understanding some of the common injuries that result from these types of collisions may help raise awareness and guide proper care. Here are several examples of injuries frequently reported:

  • Whiplash and Neck Injuries: A sudden back-and-forth motion during impact can strain the muscles and ligaments in the neck. Whiplash is especially common in rear-end accidents and may take days to manifest symptoms such as stiffness or dizziness.
  • Broken Bones: Fractures are often reported in moderate to severe crashes, particularly in the arms, ribs, or legs. These injuries can require surgery, long recovery periods, and even physical therapy, depending on the severity.
  • Head Trauma and Concussions: Even with airbags, a strong collision may cause head injuries. Concussions and traumatic brain injuries range from mild to life-altering. Memory issues, headaches, and sensitivity to light or sound are all possible effects.
  • Soft Tissue Injuries: Tears or sprains in muscles, ligaments, or tendons can limit mobility and cause lasting discomfort. These injuries might not be visible on imaging scans, which makes diagnosis challenging and often delayed.
  • Spinal Cord Injuries: Some of the most serious car accident injuries involve damage to the spine. These cases may result in partial or complete paralysis, drastically altering a person's quality of life.
