Macomb Co., MI – Two Killed in Multi-Car Crash on M-15 and Schoenherr Rd

Macomb County, MI (April 13, 2025) – A violent multi-car crash claimed two lives on Saturday evening, April 12, in Macomb County. The accident occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. near the intersection of Michigan 15 and Schoenherr Road.

According to early reports, four to five vehicles were involved in the pile-up. One of the vehicles caught fire as a result of the crash. First responders arrived quickly to manage the chaotic scene, directing any non-involved drivers to leave the area while they worked to assess injuries and secure the location.

Authorities say two people tragically lost their lives in the crash: a 79-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Additional individuals may have been injured, though full details have not yet been released. Preliminary information suggests that speed played a role in the collision. Witnesses and investigators allege that one of the drivers involved may have been traveling at speeds up to 100 miles per hour just prior to the crash. The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this crash.

Car Accidents in Michigan

Macomb Co., MI – Two Killed in Multi-Car Crash on M-15 and Schoenherr RdMichigan sees thousands of motor vehicle crashes each year. According to the Michigan State Police, more than 293,000 crashes occurred in one recent year alone, with over 51,000 involving injuries and hundreds resulting in fatalities. Many of these crashes involve excessive speed, a factor that can significantly raise the risk of death or serious harm.

When it comes to high-speed collisions, the consequences are often tragic. Here are a few of the most critical points to understand:

  • Shortened Reaction Time: At high speeds, drivers have far less time to react to sudden changes on the road—like traffic stopping ahead, a vehicle merging, or a hazard in the roadway. This drastically increases the chances of rear-end collisions and pile-ups.
  • Greater Impact Force: The force of a crash increases exponentially with speed. A vehicle traveling at 100 mph strikes with far more destructive energy than one at 60 mph, making severe injuries and fatalities more likely.
  • Increased Risk of Fire or Rollover: High-speed crashes can rupture fuel lines, spark fires, or cause vehicles to flip. These outcomes raise the danger for not only those involved in the crash but also nearby motorists and first responders.
  • Chain-Reaction Crashes: When a speeding car hits another vehicle, the force can push multiple cars into one another. This is how pile-ups often happen, particularly at busy intersections or during rush hour traffic.
  • Legal Ramifications: Excessive speeding, especially when it leads to death, may result in criminal charges such as reckless driving or vehicular manslaughter. These cases require thorough investigation and often become complex legal matters.
