Ann Arbor, MI – Worker Fatally Struck by Own Truck on Pauline Blvd

Ann Arbor, MI (April 17, 2025) – A tragic workplace accident claimed the life of a gravel hauler driver Tuesday afternoon in Ann Arbor. Authorities say the incident occurred around 4 p.m. near Pauline Boulevard and Hutchins Avenue as the man worked on trailer connections following a sand delivery.

According to the Ann Arbor Police Department, the 64-year-old victim from Livonia was found underneath his tractor-trailer when emergency crews arrived. Investigators believe he was in the process of reconnecting the front trailer to the rear trailer when he was accidentally struck by the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man had reportedly completed a delivery to a nearby construction site before attempting the trailer adjustment. The accident prompted a major emergency response involving the Ann Arbor Fire Department, Michigan State Police, and Huron Valley Ambulance. As a result of the incident and investigation, Pauline Boulevard remained closed for more than five hours in the area between Main Street and Seventh Street. Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the individual lost in this tragedy.

Fatal Work-Related Accidents in Michigan

Ann Arbor, MI – Worker Fatally Struck by Own Truck on Pauline BlvdWork-related fatalities involving large vehicles or heavy machinery remain a serious concern in Michigan. The state reports dozens of occupational deaths each year, many involving transportation incidents or equipment-related mishaps. These tragic events leave loved ones grieving and often raise questions about safety procedures, liability, and long-term financial support for surviving family members.

Families need to understand what may follow after a fatal work accident:

  • Survivor Benefits May Be Available: When a person dies on the job, their surviving spouse or dependents may be entitled to benefits through workers’ compensation. This can include partial wage replacement and help with funeral costs.
  • Independent Investigations Can Uncover More Details: Police may conduct an initial report, but in some cases, a private investigation by a legal team can reveal additional facts, such as equipment defects or safety violations, that contributed to the death.
  • Wrongful Death Claims May Apply: If negligence is involved, families may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. This can help cover both economic and emotional losses tied to the tragedy.
  • Third-Party Liability Might Exist: Sometimes, a subcontractor, equipment manufacturer, or another outside party is responsible. Identifying all liable parties is critical for ensuring fair compensation.
  • Grief Support Services Are Essential: Losing a loved one in a work accident brings immense emotional pain. Professional grief counseling and community support can be a vital part of the healing process.
