Casco Township, MI - One Killed, One Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on I-94

Casco Township, MI (April 20, 2025) – A wrong-way crash on Interstate 94 in the early hours of April 18 left one man dead and another critically injured, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a blue Dodge Charger traveling east in the westbound lanes of I-94 near County Line Road. Witnesses told authorities that the vehicle was speeding as it drove against traffic. While deputies were still on their way, they were notified that the Dodge Charger had collided with a Ford Explorer near Church Road in Casco Township.

The driver of the Dodge Charger, a 28-year-old man from Harper Woods, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 32-year-old man driving the Ford Explorer, a Flint resident, was rushed to McLaren Macomb Hospital with critical injuries. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team is continuing to investigate what led to the fatal crash. No other details have been released at this time.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Car Accidents in Michigan

Casco Township, MI - One Killed, One Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on I-94Michigan’s roadways see thousands of serious crashes each year. With over 250,000 crashes reported annually, many of these accidents lead to life-altering injuries or even fatalities. Freeways like Interstate 94 are especially prone to high-speed collisions, which often have severe consequences. The state continues to invest in awareness and safety initiatives to reduce these incidents.

To help people better understand what happens after a serious crash, here are several key things to know about insurance claims:

  • No-Fault Insurance Basics: Michigan uses a no-fault system, which means each driver’s own insurance covers their medical costs and lost wages, regardless of who caused the crash. While this helps speed up the recovery process, it can limit compensation for certain types of damages.
  • Mini-Tort Claims: If you are found to be 50% or less at fault in a crash, you can sue the at-fault driver for up to $3,000 in vehicle damage not covered by your insurance. This is known as a “mini-tort” claim and can help cover deductible costs or repairs.
  • Excess Medical Benefits: In serious cases, when medical expenses exceed policy limits, you may be able to sue the at-fault driver for excess medical costs and long-term care. This is especially relevant in catastrophic injury cases.
  • Pain and Suffering Claims: Victims may be eligible to pursue pain and suffering compensation if their injuries meet a certain severity threshold, such as permanent disfigurement or death. Proving these claims requires medical documentation and legal support.
  • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage: If the at-fault driver has no insurance or not enough to cover your losses, this optional coverage can help fill in the financial gaps. It’s a vital protection many overlook.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a crash like this, it is critical to speak with a Casco Township wrongful death attorney as soon as possible. The right attorney can help you preserve your rights, gather key evidence, and build a strong case for compensation. Insurance companies may try to settle quickly, but having an advocate ensures your voice is heard and your needs are taken seriously.
