Thetford Township, MI - Motorcyclist Killed in Crash at Saginaw Rd & Frances Rd

Thetford Township, MI (April 20, 2025) – A motorcyclist lost his life late Thursday night following a two-vehicle crash in Genesee County, according to the Michigan State Police Flint Post.

The collision took place around 11:40 p.m. on April 17 at the intersection of Saginaw Road and Frances Road in Thetford Township. Authorities say a 25-year-old man from Mt. Morris was operating a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle northbound on Saginaw Road when he collided with a 2022 Mitsubishi driven by a 19-year-old Flint resident.

The force of the crash caused fatal injuries to the motorcyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mitsubishi sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Troopers from the Michigan State Police Third District continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Further details have not yet been released.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased individual. We also hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Motorcycle Accidents in Michigan

Thetford Township, MI - Motorcyclist Killed in Crash at Saginaw Rd & Frances RdMotorcycle crashes are a serious concern across Michigan, with thousands reported each year. While motorcycles make up a small percentage of vehicles on the road, riders are far more likely to be seriously injured or killed in a collision due to the lack of physical protection. In recent years, state crash reports have shown that motorcyclists are nearly 28 times more likely to die in a crash than those in passenger vehicles.

It’s important for Michigan riders and drivers alike to understand the risks and responsibilities involved. Below are a few important insights about motorcycle accident claims:

  • Helmet Use and Legal Impact: Michigan law allows riders over 21 to ride without a helmet under certain conditions. However, not wearing a helmet can complicate injury claims and reduce potential compensation, especially in head injury cases.
  • Bias Against Motorcyclists: Unfortunately, some insurance adjusters and juries may unfairly view motorcyclists as reckless, even when they’re not at fault. An attorney can help combat these assumptions by building a clear, evidence-based case.
  • Injury Severity: Motorcycle crashes frequently result in severe trauma such as head injuries, broken bones, road rash, and spinal damage. These types of injuries often lead to extended recovery periods and increased medical costs.
  • Comparative Fault Laws: Michigan uses comparative fault rules, meaning a victim’s compensation can be reduced if they are found partially at fault. A strong legal strategy is essential to minimize this risk and fight for full compensation.
  • Uninsured Motorist Coverage: Many motorcycle crashes involve drivers with little or no insurance. Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage can make a big difference and is strongly recommended for all riders.
