Fatal Accidents in Michigan

Owosso, MI - Young Child Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on M-21Tragic accidents like this are far too common on Michigan’s roads. According to data from the Michigan State Police, hundreds of fatal crashes occur statewide each year, many involving intersections in rural or semi-rural areas. These roads, like Michigan 21 near Owosso, often have higher speed limits and limited visibility, which can contribute to the risk.

When a young life is lost in a crash, families are left grieving and facing unexpected legal and financial decisions. Here's what loved ones may need to consider:

  • Wrongful Death Claims for Minors: Parents may pursue a wrongful death claim for a child lost in a crash. This can include damages for funeral costs, emotional distress, and loss of companionship.
  • Funeral and Burial Expenses: These costs can create additional strain on grieving families. Legal action can help secure financial resources to ease that burden.
  • Lack of Immediate Answers: In the aftermath of a crash, it's not uncommon for investigations to take time. Families often experience frustration while awaiting details from law enforcement or insurance companies.
  • Mental Health and Grief Support: The emotional trauma of losing a child can have lasting effects. Access to counseling, support groups, and mental health care is vital during the healing process.
  • Insurance Negotiations: Dealing with auto insurers during a wrongful death case can be difficult. Families may encounter delays or low settlement offers, especially when liability is still being reviewed.
  • Preserving Evidence: Early involvement from legal representatives can help gather important evidence—such as traffic camera footage, vehicle data, and eyewitness statements—before it is lost or forgotten.
