Car Accidents in Michigan

Fenton Twp., MI – Crash Just North of S Linden Rd & Owen Rd Leaves InjuriesCar crashes in Michigan remain a major concern, especially in areas with busy local intersections and steady traffic flow. The Michigan State Police report thousands of injury crashes annually, many involving serious or even life-altering outcomes for those involved.

One important topic that often arises after an accident is how to handle property damage claims. Here's what you should know:

  • Document the Damage Thoroughly: Take clear photos of all vehicles involved, focusing on areas of visible damage. Capture different angles and lighting if possible. This documentation helps support your claim and provides a reference if there are disputes about the extent of the damage.
  • Get an Independent Estimate: Insurance companies may recommend repair shops, but it’s a good idea to get a second opinion. Independent body shops can provide alternate estimates and sometimes uncover damage that others miss.
  • Know Your Coverage: Understanding what your policy covers is critical. If you only carry liability coverage, repairs to your vehicle may not be included. Full coverage usually includes both collision and comprehensive protection.
  • Request a Rental Car if Eligible: If your car is undrivable, ask about rental coverage. Many policies offer rental reimbursement for a set number of days, helping you stay mobile while your vehicle is in the shop.
  • Don't Settle Until the Vehicle is Fully Inspected: Initial assessments may miss hidden damage. Make sure all issues are identified and addressed before agreeing to a settlement. Once a claim is closed, it may be difficult to reopen it for additional repairs.
