Car Accidents in Michigan

Mt. Morris Twp., MI – Injury Crash at Penwood Rd and Eldon RdIn Michigan, injury-related crashes are an unfortunate reality, with tens of thousands happening each year. Many involve intersections, especially in suburban and urban communities. State statistics show that intersection-related crashes can result in severe injury due to the angle and speed of the collisions.

Understanding how intersections can contribute to vehicle accidents can help drivers stay safer on the road. Here are a few key factors to keep in mind:

  • Failure to Yield: One of the most common causes of intersection crashes is a driver's failure to yield the right of way. Whether it’s at a stop sign or a yellow light, hesitation or aggressive moves can cause confusion and lead to high-impact collisions.
  • Left-Hand Turns: Turning left at intersections can be especially risky, particularly when there’s no dedicated turn signal. Drivers may misjudge the speed of oncoming vehicles or turn too late, creating a dangerous situation.
  • Blocked Visibility: Obstructed views due to parked cars, signs, or landscaping can limit a driver’s ability to see other vehicles or pedestrians. Reduced visibility can lead to sudden braking or missed traffic signals.
  • Red Light Running: When drivers try to beat a red light or accelerate through a yellow, the risk of a crash spikes. Intersections are frequently monitored, but enforcement alone can’t stop every violation.
  • Distracted Driving in Intersections: Even a momentary distraction, such as checking a phone, can be disastrous at an intersection. Distraction increases reaction time and decreases awareness in a space where split-second decisions matter most.
