Lansing, MI (May 10, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision disrupted traffic and brought emergency crews to the scene near the Frandor Shopping Center in Lansing on Tuesday evening. The accident occurred around 9:21 p.m. on Saginaw Street near the Grand River Avenue split, close to the city limits.

Authorities closed the road to allow police, fire, and emergency medical personnel to respond and secure the area. The closure remained in place for just over an hour, with lanes reopening at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Witnesses and news crews observed one of the vehicles with significant front-end damage and deployed airbags, while the second vehicle showed less severe damage. EMS crews assessed the victims at the scene and transported those who needed further treatment to local hospitals. At least one person was injured as a result of the crash. Authorities have not yet released the cause of the accident, and an investigation is underway.

We hope those injured in this accident recover swiftly.

Car Accidents in Michigan

Lansing, MI – Crash Near Frandor Shopping Center Leads to InjuriesEvery year, Michigan roads see thousands of crashes, with many resulting in serious injuries. In urban areas like Lansing, crashes near busy intersections or shopping centers are especially common. With heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic, distractions, and complex roadway layouts, these areas can be particularly dangerous for drivers and passengers.

Let’s explore the role that vehicle safety features play in minimizing injury risk:

  • Airbags: Airbags are designed to deploy in a fraction of a second during a collision. They help reduce the impact on occupants’ heads and chests, which can significantly lower the chances of fatal injuries. Front airbags, side airbags, and curtain airbags all work together to protect different parts of the body.
  • Crumple Zones: Modern vehicles are engineered with crumple zones that absorb energy during a crash. These areas deform in a controlled manner to reduce the force transmitted to the vehicle’s occupants, helping to prevent internal injuries and fractures.
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC): ESC helps drivers maintain control of their vehicle in slippery or sharp-turning situations. By automatically adjusting brakes and engine power, ESC can prevent rollovers and side collisions.
  • Seatbelt Pretensioners: These components tighten the seatbelt during a crash to remove slack and better restrain passengers. This can help prevent serious injuries by keeping people firmly in place and reducing forward movement.
  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS): Features like lane departure warnings, forward collision alerts, and automatic emergency braking can reduce the risk of accidents altogether by alerting or intervening when a crash is imminent.
