Motorcycle Accidents in Michigan

Saginaw, MI - Motorcycle Involved in Injury Crash at Main and WashingtonMotorcycle accidents across Michigan continue to result in serious injuries and fatalities. In 2023, the state reported over 3,200 crashes involving motorcycles, with many leading to long-term consequences for riders. Intersections are particularly dangerous for motorcyclists due to visibility issues and driver misjudgment.

Understanding the most common causes of motorcycle-related collisions helps shed light on how these tragedies occur:

  • Left-Turn Accidents: One of the most common types of motorcycle crashes happens when a car turns left in front of an oncoming motorcycle. Drivers often misjudge the motorcycle’s speed or overlook it entirely, resulting in direct collisions.
  • Failure to Yield: Many motorcycle accidents stem from other vehicles failing to yield the right of way. Whether it's merging onto a road or crossing an intersection, these errors can have serious consequences for riders who have little protection.
  • Blind Spot Collisions: Motorcycles can be easily hidden in the blind spots of cars and trucks. When drivers fail to check thoroughly before changing lanes, they may unknowingly sideswipe or strike a passing motorcyclist.
  • Road Hazards: Debris, potholes, and uneven pavement may be minor inconveniences for cars but can be catastrophic for motorcycles. A small obstruction can cause a rider to lose balance and crash.
  • Speed and Sudden Stops: Quick stops or abrupt maneuvers on busy roads often lead to rear-end collisions with motorcycles. These crashes can be particularly dangerous due to the lack of a barrier between the rider and the vehicle behind them.
