Auburn Hills, MI (May 25, 2025) – Late Friday evening, May 23, a crash occurred along Interstate 75 near Baldwin Road involving a Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Courtesy Patrol van and another vehicle. The incident happened while the van was assisting police with traffic control during a prior accident scene.
According to authorities, the MDOT vehicle was parked along the shoulder when it was struck by a motorist who failed to move over for emergency crews. Both the MDOT driver and the at-fault motorist were taken to a nearby hospital with what were described as minor injuries. Officials confirmed that the driver responsible for the crash was arrested at the scene.
Traffic on I-75 was impacted overnight as emergency personnel cleared the scene and conducted an investigation. The incident has renewed conversations about Michigan’s Move Over law, which requires drivers to slow down and switch lanes when approaching stationary emergency or maintenance vehicles.
We are wishing a full and speedy recovery to everyone involved in this incident.
