Ann Arbor Twp., MI - Two Teens Injured in Crash on US-23

Ann Arbor Twp., MI (May 27, 2025) – A serious rollover crash left two teenagers injured early Sunday morning, May 25, on northbound US-23 near Geddes Road in Washtenaw County’s Ann Arbor Township. The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. and led to the temporary closure of the roadway for several hours.

According to a report from the Michigan State Police Brighton Post, the vehicle involved was a 2018 Nissan Rogue. The 17-year-old male driver from Ypsilanti was ejected during the crash and rushed to Trinity Hospital in Ann Arbor, where he was listed in critical condition. A 16-year-old female passenger was trapped inside the SUV and later extracted by first responders. She was also transported to Trinity Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.

Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle had been traveling southbound on US-23 before the driver lost control. The SUV crossed the median and rolled multiple times before coming to a stop. Northbound lanes of US-23 near Geddes Road remained closed from approximately 3 a.m. until 6:45 a.m. as authorities investigated and cleared the scene.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Car Accidents in Michigan

Ann Arbor Twp., MI - Two Teens Injured in Crash on US-23Each year in Michigan, thousands of crashes result in injuries, many involving young drivers. Rollover accidents, while less common than other types of collisions, account for a disproportionate number of serious injuries and fatalities due to the violent nature of these incidents and the likelihood of ejection.

Here’s a look at the key dangers of rollover crashes and what makes them especially hazardous:

  • Ejection Risk: When seat belts aren’t used or fail during impact, occupants can be thrown from the vehicle. Ejection often results in life-threatening injuries, as seen in this crash involving the teen driver.
  • Roof Crush Injuries: Vehicles that roll can suffer significant roof collapse, causing trauma to the head, neck, or spine of those inside. These injuries can lead to long-term disability or worse.
  • High Center-of-Gravity Vehicles: SUVs and trucks are more likely to roll over due to their height and weight distribution. Sudden swerving or overcorrection on highways can quickly lead to a rollover.
  • Speed and Loss of Control: Speeding increases rollover risk significantly. Drivers who lose control at highway speeds are more likely to roll if their tires hit soft shoulders or medians.
  • Limited Time to React: Rollover events unfold rapidly, giving drivers and passengers little to no time to react. The violence of the motion often disorients those involved.
