Authorities from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office reported that a Honda Civic was traveling at what witnesses described as "very high speeds" before it lost control, struck a curb, and violently collided with a utility pole. The impact was so severe it split the car into two parts. Responders from the Allendale Township Fire Department, along with Consumers Energy, were dispatched to manage the scene and handle the damaged pole.
A 25-year-old woman from Grand Rapids, who was riding as a passenger, suffered serious facial injuries despite wearing a seatbelt. She was quickly taken to a nearby hospital for emergency care. The 25-year-old male driver, also from Grand Rapids, sustained injuries and was later arrested at the scene. Charges against him have not yet been made public.
The speed of the Honda Civic before the crash was confirmed by multiple eyewitnesses, as reported by MLive and WOODTV. The male driver was treated at Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital.
We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.
