Car Accidents in Michigan

Grand Blanc, MI – Crash Near Perry Center on S Saginaw St Ends in InjuriesEach year in Michigan, thousands of people are injured in vehicle crashes on state roadways. According to the Michigan State Police, over 70,000 injury-related car crashes are reported annually. These accidents can range from minor fender-benders to life-altering collisions that require long-term medical care and rehabilitation.

When it comes to what causes many of these crashes, here are several key points to consider:

  • Distracted Driving: One of the leading causes of crashes in Michigan involves distracted driving. This includes texting, eating, or adjusting the radio while behind the wheel. Even a momentary distraction can result in a serious accident.
  • Speeding: Driving above the posted speed limit or too fast for conditions often increases the likelihood of a crash. Speed reduces a driver’s reaction time and makes it more difficult to avoid a hazard.
  • Inclement Weather: Rain, snow, and ice are frequent challenges on Michigan roads. Drivers who do not adjust their speed or driving style for these conditions may lose control and cause a crash.
  • Impaired Driving: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs continues to be a major contributor to serious car accidents. These cases often result in criminal charges and civil claims for damages.
  • Failure to Yield: Many accidents occur when drivers fail to yield the right-of-way at intersections or while merging. This can lead to dangerous T-bone or side-impact collisions.
