Flint Car Accident

Frenchtown Twp., MI (June 25, 2025) – An automobile accident unfolded Tuesday morning, June 24, in Monroe County when a semi truck crashed into a Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) work zone along Interstate 75, leaving the truck driver dead and several road construction workers injured.

The collision occurred just after 9 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75, near the I-275 split in Frenchtown Township, north of Monroe. Michigan State Police reported that MDOT crews had been patching the left lane at the time, with two specialized attenuator vehicles stationed behind them for added protection.

According to police, the semi truck slammed into the back of one of the attenuator trucks, jackknifed, and then struck the second safety vehicle. The crash caused the truck’s cargo, aluminum cans, to scatter across the highway. Emergency crews responded swiftly, but the truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Several MDOT workers suffered injuries, though none were believed to be life-threatening.

All northbound lanes of Interstate 75 at Exit 18 (Nadeau Road) were initially closed, with traffic later diverted at Exit 20 (I-275) until around 9:30 p.m. Congestion spilled onto nearby northbound US-24/Telegraph Road during the extended closure. The crash is currently being investigated.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Truck Accidents in Michigan

Frenchtown Twp., MI - Truck Driver Killed, MDOT Workers Hurt in I-75 CrashTruck-related crashes in Michigan often involve serious injuries or fatalities, especially when they impact work zones. According to the Michigan State Police, large commercial vehicles require longer stopping distances and pose unique hazards when navigating construction areas.

The dangers of truck crashes near highway work zones are particularly concerning. Here are key insights into what contributes to these types of incidents:

  • Reduced Visibility Around Work Zones: Temporary signage, lane shifts, and machinery can make it difficult for truck drivers to respond quickly. When attention lapses or traffic suddenly slows, rear-end collisions can become unavoidable.
  • Jackknifing Risks: Jackknifing, where a trailer swings toward the cab, often occurs during hard braking or when traction is lost. This can cause multi-vehicle impacts and is particularly dangerous in tight areas like construction zones.
  • Cargo Spills: In crashes involving freight trucks, unsecured or heavy cargo can spill and create hazards for other motorists. Debris like aluminum cans may lead to secondary accidents if not cleared quickly.
  • Attenuator Safety Measures: Attenuator vehicles are used to absorb impact and protect workers, but severe collisions can overwhelm even these safety tools, especially at high speeds.
  • Extended Road Closures and Traffic Disruptions: Major crashes often shut down highways for hours, affecting emergency response and increasing risk in diverted routes.
