Pontiac, MI - Investigators Seeking Hit-and-Run Driver After Deadly Wreck on Auburn Ave

Pontiac, MI (August 1, 2023) - Investigators with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office have determined that a Chevrolet Traverse, with a model year between 2009 and 2012, was the suspect vehicle in a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a Pontiac man on Saturday.

The Sheriff's Department asked for the public's assistance in determining the identity of the vehicle's driver. The collision initially occurred at around 12:50 a.m. on Saturday on Auburn Avenue in Pontiac, close to the intersection with South Astor Street. An eastbound driver hit the victim, identified only as a 59-year-old man, as he was walking across the street.

The victim passed away shortly after being taken to the hospital for treatment, and the suspected at-fault motorist fled the scene.

According to crash investigators, there will likely be damage to the front passenger side of the Chevrolet Traverse, including the passenger side headlight lens.

The Sheriff's Office has a crash reconstruction team looking into what happened. In the meantime, witnesses were asked to phone Crime Stoppers if they had additional details about the accident or the suspect driver.
