Troy, MI (August 2, 2023) - Authorities say an 18-year-old driver in Mustang lost control of his car while speeding, driving into oncoming traffic, and causing a collision that left another driver hurt near Troy and Sterling Heights on Monday, July 31.
Officers with the Troy Police Department say that the accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Dequindre Road and Maple Road. Both Sterling Heights and Troy officers were dispatched to the incident.
According to authorities, an 18-year-old Warren man was reportedly traveling south on Dequindre Road in a white Ford Mustang. He was allegedly driving at excessive speeds before he lost control of his vehicle after hitting the curb with his back right tire.
After veering to the left, the Mustang entered the northbound lanes of Dequindre Road and crashed into a black Cadillac. The Mustang's driver was seriously injured and sent to the emergency room.
The 18-year-old Sterling Heights resident behind the wheel of the Cadillac reportedly suffered minor to moderate injuries, though his current condition is unknown.
The road was closed for three hours in both directions due to the investigation, which is being handled by the Troy PD.
