Detroit, MI (August 27, 2023) - Reports of a white SUV traveling north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near Springwells began coming into the Detroit Regional Communication Center on Saturday, shortly before a wrong-way accident took place.
When police arrived, they discovered a serious collision involving three vehicles, one of which had been traveling the wrong way. The driver of one of the vehicles, identified as a Kia sedan, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The SUV driver and the driver of the third car, a Volkswagen, both suffered significant injuries and were sent to a nearby hospital. The inquiry is now pending the driver's identity, the medical examiner's report, and the ultimate cause of the crash.
A crash reconstructionist with the Detroit Police Department and investigating officers are still working to piece together what occurred before the crash. The investigation remains active at this time.
