Car Accidents Across Detroit
Every few seconds, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a motor vehicle collision occurs in the United States. Given the abysmal national and Michigan-specific crash statistics, it should not come as a surprise that the overwhelming majority of personal injury claims heard by our courts today involve automobile accidents.
With limited exceptions, Michigan is a “no-fault” state, meaning that your insurance company will pay for your damages regardless of who caused the accident. You can file a claim for both first-party benefits (monetary damages) and non-monetary losses (such as pain and suffering) if they occur.
You should still seek the help of an attorney after an accident, especially if your injuries are severe. While victims may be concerned that employing an attorney will deplete their finances, research indicates that plaintiffs represented by attorneys receive larger settlements than those who choose to represent themselves. Moreover, the vast majority of personal injury attorneys accept cases on a contingency fee basis, so you will accrue no costs unless your case results in a favorable verdict or settlement.
Additionally, a lawyer’s assistance is advantageous in numerous other ways. You can rely on your attorney to handle all communications with insurance companies and third parties regarding your claim. Your attorney will investigate all of your legal options to determine who is responsible for the calamity and why you are entitled to compensation. This may entail gathering incident-related evidence, compiling the case’s facts, interrogating witnesses, and other measures.
