Motorcycle Accidents in Michigan

Thomas Township, MI - Car and Motorcycle Collision on Gratiot AveMotorcyclists in Michigan face unique risks on the road. Without the protective barrier of a car frame, even minor crashes can result in serious injuries or fatalities. In a recent year, Michigan recorded over 3,000 motorcycle crashes, with more than 1,800 injuries and nearly 150 deaths. These collisions often occur at intersections, during lane changes, or when drivers fail to see motorcyclists in time.

Here are some of the most common injuries sustained in motorcycle accidents:

  • Road Rash and Skin Abrasions: When a rider is thrown from a bike, sliding across pavement can lead to painful abrasions. Severe road rash can result in nerve damage and may require skin grafts or surgery.
  • Broken Bones: Collisions often result in fractures to arms, legs, ribs, or the pelvis. Protective gear can help, but the force of impact in a motorcycle crash is often enough to cause serious bone damage.
  • Traumatic Brain Injuries: Even with a helmet, head injuries remain one of the most dangerous outcomes of motorcycle crashes. Symptoms can range from dizziness and memory issues to long-term cognitive impairment.
  • Spinal Cord Injuries: Back and neck trauma can lead to paralysis or other mobility challenges. These injuries often require extensive rehabilitation and can significantly alter a person’s quality of life.
  • Internal Injuries: Damage to organs like the liver, lungs, or spleen may not be visible immediately but can be life-threatening. Internal bleeding requires rapid diagnosis and treatment.
