Westland, MI (August 5, 2023) - A 4-year-old child was hurt when a dog was left in a golf cart and hit her at a local Westland festival on Friday evening, August 4.

The incident occurred Friday night at a festival called Blues, Brews, and BBQ. Bella, the local fire department's arson dog, was reportedly spotted riding on a golf cart used by the department. According to Westland Fire, the cart lunged forward and struck a 4-year-old girl as the dog sat on the floor in front of the gas pedal. The passenger side front tire ran over the girl's left leg before firefighters were able to steer the cart away to avoid hitting other bystanders.

The extent of the girl's injuries was unclear, though she was assessed at the scene. Officers with the Westland Police Department and Westland fire officials are continuing to investigate.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and her loved ones. We hope for her complete recovery.
