Detroit, MI (September 1, 2023) - On Friday morning, September 1, several vehicles collided near the Coolidge Road exit from westbound I-696, closing almost all lanes of the highway.
Officers with the Detroit Police Department were sent to the scene shortly after 9:15 a.m. According to a report from the Michigan Department of Transportation for the Kent County area, the incident, which involved what seems to be at least two to three drivers, blocked most of the right-hand traffic lanes on the roadway.
Police from Detroit and the state of Michigan arrived at the site to begin their investigation. It is still unknown how many persons were injured, but the Detroit Police Department also requested emergency medical assistance.
DPD detectives are wrapping up their investigation and interviewing potential witnesses. In the meantime, no other details have been revealed.
The injured victims and their families are in our thoughts. We hope for their full recovery.
