In the grand scheme of things, there is nothing more tragic than an automobile accident in Michigan in which infants or children are injured or even lose their lives. One step that was taken to prevent such instances was to require the use of car seats when an infant, or child under a certain age and weight, is transported in an automobile.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an average of over 600 children are killed in U.S. car accidents annually. Over 120,000 children are injured nationally in car accidents each year. These statistics include infants and toddlers.

Fortunately, the use of car seats have resulted in a decrease in the number of children who are injured and killed in Michigan car accidents each year. Although a car seat can help, there are horrific situations in which the car seat itself creates an added danger or does not work as it should because of some sort of defect.

Child Car Seat Recalls

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, together with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA, announced manufacturer recalls for a number of widely used child car seats. These recalls direct the return of these child car seats and direct that they not be used. These car seats have been deemed defective in one way or another, presenting a very real, immediate danger to infants and children with their continued use.

Child Car Seats Recalled to Date

The list of child car seats subject to recalls because of a manufacturer's defect or another issue can change at any time. The popular child car seats involved in recalls at this time include:

  • Evenflo Evolve 3-In-1 Child Car Seat
  • Britax B-Agile and BOB Motion Strollers with Click and Go receivers to hold a child car seat
  • Baby Trend Booster-Style Child Car Seat
  • 4moms Self-Installing Child Car Seat

Steps to be Aware of Future Child Car Seat Recalls

The best course of action a parent can take to ensure that he or she is aware of any future child car seat recalls is to be proactive. When a car seat is purchased, a parent is provided with a registration card. The card takes only a moment to complete. A parent can also complete this same registration card online. By completing and submitting the registration information, a parent is to be notified if a recall occurs in regard to a particular product.

Child seat recalls are a serious matter. Your child is precious to you and you purchased a car seat with your child’s safety in mind. The last thing you expected was for your child to be injured in the restraints of a car seat. If a defective car seat is at fault for you child’s injuries, you may be due compensation.
