Kalamazoo, MI (September 5, 2023) – Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Authority reported that eastbound I-94 was closed for a short time near Galesburg due to a vehicle collision and subsequent car fire.
The right lane was closed until the car fire was extinguished, MDOT stated in an accident alert at about 11:30 p.m. Eastbound drivers on I-94 were instructed to find an alternative route just before 10:30 p.m. due to the incident.
The car fire, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation crews, happened just before the Climax Road off-ramp at Exit 88. EMTs also responded to evaluate injured victims, but authorities did not specify how many people were involved and did not provide details on their current conditions.
The cause of the accident remains under inquiry, and witnesses were asked to contact Kalamazoo officers.
