Fatal Car Accidents in Michigan

Concord, MI – Fatal Crash Reported on M-60 near Main StDriving is known to be risky, but when drivers take unnecessary chances, the likelihood of a severe or fatal car accident only increases. If you've lost a loved one due to a careless or unsafe driver, it's understandable that you're feeling upset and devastated.

While no amount of compensation can replace the loss of a loved one, receiving a settlement can provide some financial stability to help you move forward. In Michigan, specific surviving family members may file a wrongful death lawsuit to seek damages. A family member needs to be chosen as the representative for the claim. Michigan laws permit the following relatives of the deceased to bring forth a wrongful death lawsuit:

  • Spouse and children of the decedent
  • Grandparents and parents of the deceased
  • Siblings of the deceased
  • Individuals named in the deceased's will or legally entitled to inherit from the estate, like aunts, uncles, or cousins, can also file a wrongful death claim even if none of the aforementioned relatives are alive at the time of death.

The negligent driver responsible for causing your family member's death or severe injuries in a Michigan car incident should be held accountable for their actions. It's important to note that most wrongful death lawsuits are initiated by grieving families seeking fair compensation for the financial hardship resulting from the loss of their loved one.

If the driver's negligence played a role in your family member's death, you have the right to pursue legal action against them. A wrongful death claim could potentially entitle you to compensation for:

  • Loss of your family member's love, support, and guidance (loss of consortium): This includes the emotional and practical support that your loved one would have provided.
  • Financial and emotional impacts of losing your loved one, including pain and suffering: This encompasses the mental anguish and grief that result from the sudden and traumatic loss.
  • Funeral and burial expenses: These are the costs associated with laying your loved one to rest, which can be substantial and unexpected.
  • Medical and healthcare costs: If your loved one received medical treatment before their death, these expenses can be significant.

After experiencing injuries or the loss of a loved one in an accident, it's normal to feel fearful and unsure about what steps to take next. The emotional toll can be overwhelming, and the financial burdens can add to the stress. If you're facing financial struggles, you don't have to go through it alone.
