Walton Township, MI (November 10, 2023) - An incident that occurred on Wednesday evening in Walton Township caused the closure of a portion of Interstate 69 for almost six hours due to a deadly car accident.

In a press release, the Eaton County Sheriff's Office said that at about 9:15 a.m., south of Five Point Highway in Walton Township, a transport van collided with a semi-truck traveling north. The police had previously said the collision occurred in the southbound lanes.

Officials say seven passengers were inside the van, and one woman was killed. Multiple other persons were critically hurt, according to a department spokeswoman.

Troopers with the Michigan State Police are still investigating the incident at this time.
