Spring Lake, MI (March 23, 2022) – A woman from Muskegon was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Spring Lake Township. The wreck happened at approximately 4:36 p.m., according to reports.
As per the initial information, the fatal wreck happened between Taft Road and Van Wagoner Street on U.S. 31. A blue Honda SUV collided with the rear of a Grand Haven Area Public Schools bus. Authorities stated that no students were on the bus at the time of the crash.
Reports further added that the bus was headed south on US 31 when it was rear-ended by the Honda. The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under police investigation.
The Honda’s driver, identified as a 47-year-old woman from Muskegon, lost her life in the crash. She was pronounced deceased a short time after the incident occurred.
Police closed the southbound lanes of U.S. 31 south of Pontaluna Road while emergency personnel worked on-site. Drivers in the area were advised to use alternative travel routes for the time being.
Police later closed one of two lanes heading north on U.S. 31 in order to process the site of the collision. No further details have been reported at this time.
Police continue to investigate.
